Sifting

31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭31-32‬ NKJV

God is good and there can be no evil in him. However, many would question the wisdom and purpose of God in the verses listed above. Today, we would hear a lot of chatter about “why would God allow this to happen,” or “how could a loving God let one of His children be under this kind of attack?

Before you question my insensitivity, I recognize that most of these statements are said in immense pain when clarity is hard to find. However, upon closer inspection you can find the wisdom and victory of the Father’s plan. One of the greatest gifts any Dad could give his children is to coach and support his children through adversity instead of always alleviating the adversity from their life. You know the saying: “no pain, no gain” that we throw around when others are struggling is true. Resistance is necessary for growth.

Take heart, however, when you see or feel struggle. One of the most overlooked statements in our passage today is what Christ IS doing rather than what He is not. He IS interceding for Peter. Wow! I can’t think of anyone else I want in my corner - praying! The Son of God is eternally making intercession on my behalf. How can I not see the goodness of God in that statement. Jesus sees the glory that will be revealed after you learn to crush Satan underneath your feet! So, He prays - diligently.

Are you in the season of sifting? Take heart my friend, Jesus is praying for you because you have a call to strengthen the body of Christ. You are a living testimony being displayed in front of those that need strength and hope. While Satan is requesting a sifting, he doesn’t recognize what Jesus sees inside of you. You are a champion that will cause hell to shudder when you step on the neck of the enemy.

Jesus is praying for you today. That’s victory wrapped up and delivered to my doorstep.
