Burning Conviction

'And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on
the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” '

Luke 24:32

"Did not our hearts burn?" Have you ever been in that place where you have that moment of realization that you have been missing it. That "I should have known" feeling that you get when you know the Holy Spirit was present warning you or nudging you but you were too blind and deaf to recognize His presence.
It's a tough pill to swallow for our prideful Christian badge. That God can be walking with us on our journey, ready to help, yet we are too caught up in the problem to recognize His presence. Yet, the patience of Jesus is palatable in this story. Truly, you and I would have smacked our friends or family in the face and say something like: "hello...I'm right here!"

I am grateful for the kindness and patience of Christ in my life. The unchanging presence of 1 Corinthians 13 lived out with me each and every day. Love is patient and love is kind, but love is also a two person relationship to be fully alive. My prayer is that I would reciprocate His presence by my faith being live and active. I want to be fully alive in the face of problems so that my heart is singing in faith and my eyes are attentive to His cadence walking with me through even the valley of death's shadow.

I feel ya, Cleopas. Life is often frustrating and the questioning of the Spirit can often seem flighty or insignificant. Jesus had purpose in every question throughout the gospels and now in His resurrection the accuracy of His questions were hitting the mark. "Why are you sad" and "what things" were trying to pinpoint the problem. Why and what questions are intended to open our eyes to the promises of the Word and the authority they have over the current conditions of life. Thanks be to God that through Jesus Christ we have an open and clear conversation available with the King. The clarity of our conversations with God give us clear perspective of our redemptive purpose and the plan of God.

Today, if we can simply keep walking with Jesus He will open our eyes to see that He is alive - just as He said.
